The Cars......

The base cars (for us) for the Dunlop Production Touring Car Trophy (formerly the Dunlop Sport Maxx Production Cup) are Astra VXR, the same as the cars you will find in everyday life on the road, or down at your local Vauxhall retailer.

There are many things that are changed from a safety point of view, which are obviously required for motorsport, and there are a few items that are changed for improved performance, however there are restrictions on what can and cannot be changed.

The cars are fully stripped out and the shell is dipped to remove all underseal (you would be surprised how heavy all this actually is!), the interior is then finished in black/grey and the multi point roll cage fitted along with the Recaro Kevlar HANS seat and race harnesses. The car has a motorsport battery mounted in the passenger side next to the ballast box (where the seat used to be), a fully plumbed in fire extinguisher is added door trims panels are removed along with all other interior trim. A datalogger is added.

The cars run on Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2 Alloy Wheels (8J x 18"), with control Dunlop slick tyres (2011 on) which all competitors must use. Wet weather tyres are used according to the conditions. Larger 4 pot 343mm AP brakes are fitted to the front, rear brakes remain OE and the car features KW 2 Way Race Suspension. The standard M32 gearboxes uses an uprated clutch assembly and lightweight flywheel set up and is fitted with a limited slip differential. Suspension bushes can be changed (2011 on).

On the performance side the OE turbocharger remains, standard engine internals must remain, along with the standard water radiator. We are free to add a full sports exhaust system from the turbo back which must run a motorsport cat, an intercooler (2012 on) can be added and ECU remapping is free so we can do whatever we can to the ecu to improve the performance whilst still ensuring the car can run safely and for a full race distance with no drop off in performance. A high flow panel filter is also fitted.

All cars are monitored to ensure they are within the performance boundaries set out and all cars are rigorously scrutineered at each race meeting.

2010 :: we ran one Astra VXR, the red 14 car which won the championship, driven by Adrian Churchill.
2011 :: we ran the red Astra VXR (No 1), again driven by Adrian Churchill.
2011 :: Our second car competed, run by Mardi Gras Motorsport and driven by Kevin George.
